Arcana X 2nd Assignment: Bitter Suites to Succubi Chapter 9 Pt.1!!

Elanohr stands before Elga’s house. Her face is long with pity. The lawn has not been kept up. The flower bed, once vibrant and beautiful, is now a decayed wreck, along with the potted plants that line the porch and decorate the windows. All of them hang like tattered rags. Dirt and dust carpeted the porch and draped the windows. It has been more than three days since Aerith and Larissa left for Tulpex and never returned. That was the last time anyone has heard or saw Elga especially Elanohr who is her closest friend. She steps into the yard and kneels down to the closest flower bed. Lifting the withered head of a tulip like a newborn babe, she recalls how beautifully kept these were. Elga would be out every day tending to them. They were her other children. She loved and cared for them in kind. For Elanohr to see the flowers in such condition saddens her. Elga may be worse than she first thought.
Feeling a comforting hand on her shoulder, Elanohr looks at Willow. “Elga loved gardening. There wasn’t a single day that went by that she wasn’t tending to these flowers. Besides Larissa, this was the only thing to held her together after…” she started to say before choking on her emotions.
“Elanohr, if you want to help Elga, we have to speak to her. Okay?” Ecks says with comfort.
Wiping away her tears, Elanohr gently moves her hand from behind to the tulip head and stands. “You’re right,” she says.
Together, they walk up the short path to the house. Elanohr has made several attempts to get Elga out to search for their girls. Sadly, each knock she left on the door was met with silence. She fears the result will be the same even with Ecks and Willow accompanying her. After a bit of hesitation, she knocks on the door. This is truly the best chance she has to help her friend. “Elga. It’s Elanohr. Please open up. I have someone who can help us find our girls,” she says.
There is no answer.
Ecks, seeing the discouragement in Elanohr’s face, steps to the door. “Elga, my name is Ecks. My partner and I want to help you find your daughter Larissa. But we can’t do that unless we speak to you.”
Again, silence is their response.
Ecks calls Elga’s name again and knocks on the door. It creaks open. Elanohr is surprised. “The door…is unlocked? But Elga has never left her door unlocked, not once,” she stated worriedly.
Suspecting something is amiss, Ecks steps to the door and draws Grace. Willow holds Elanohr back as a precaution. Gently, Ecks pushes the door open. The house has not been given the proper attention either. Dust has accumulated on the furniture and floor. Several plates of rotted food sat on the table. A pair of mice make themselves fat from the abandoned meal. Ecks steps inside, cautiously scanning the area. Though Elanohr told him of Elga’s situation, he suspects something is off. Why would the front door be left unlocked by someone who is known for keeping it shut? He is not sure if Tulpaar has bandits but he also cannot be relaxed. Ecks proceeds through the house, searching for every possible hiding place. While doing so, he continues to rouse Elga. “Elga, I’m First Lieutenant Ecks, a knight from the Knighthood of Arcana. I’m with your friend Elanohr. She has told my partner and I about your missing daughters. We’re can help you find Larissa but we need to speak with you.” He pauses for a moment for a reply.
None came.
By now, Willow and Elanohr have entered Elga’s home. Elanohr is shock at the disarray. Elga kept her home tidy. Her concerns grow. What has happened to Elga, she wondered.
Ecks enters the dining room. Still, no sign of her. Then he hears a noise in the kitchen. His senses immediately kick into high gear. Soundlessly, he crept to the door. Grace is in hand awaiting his command. Ecks slowly places a hand on the door and guides it open gently. He pauses a moment and then swings the door open and brings Grace to bear. There is no sign of bandits; however, he is held fast by a grisly sight. Elga is found hanging from a large support beam by a noose tightly cinched around her neck. It is then that the pungent smell of death permeated his nose. He gags in disgust and turns from the scene. Ecks is about to warn Elanohr but there she is standing behind him, eyes wide with disbelief and mouth agape in shock. She had gotten the answer to her question in the most horrific way possible. Ecks quickly closed the door, unfortunately, the damage has been done.
Willow attempts to comfort Elanohr. “Elanohr, come on. Let’s get you back home,” she says. Talking to a wall would have been more sufficient. The woman is frozen in shock. The sight of her dead friend’s body suspended from the ceiling is forever locked in her mind. Willow makes two more attempts to move her to get to a more comfortable place. Soon the shock is replaced with the terrible realization that her best friend has taken her own life.
“Elga!” Elanohr screams. With speed, she rushes to the kitchen door. Willow holds her back but adrenaline fueled desperation makes the woman surprisingly strong. “Elga! Elga! We have to get her down! We have to get her down!” cried Elanohr. The two people who have come to help her vanish from her vision. All she sees is Elga’s lifeless body hanging from the ceiling like a macabre chandelier. She fights to reach her, to help her.
Ecks intervenes and helps Willow restrain a very emotional Elanohr. “Elanohr! Listen to me! There’s nothing you can do for her!” he says firmly. Still, the woman fought, desperate to help her friend. Ecks grabs her firmly by the shoulders. “Elanohr!” he shouts her name with a stern shake. Elanohr stops her struggle. She looks at him. Then at the kitchen. And then back at Ecks. Tears pool in her eyes as reality settles in. Elga has taken her own life out of sorrow over her missing daughter. Elanohr slumps to the ground and weeps loudly. Ecks steps back while Willow comforts her. He hangs his head. This is one of the tough parts of being a knight trying to help. You can’t save everyone no matter how much you want to.
