WATCH OUT FOR SPOILERS, MATE!!

Voodoo king Papa Midnite puts a price in Constantine’s head. With help from Jim Corrigan, Constantine and Zed investigate the disappearances of several young girls. They visit the mother of one of the girls. Zed is having trouble using her ability to find the girl. John uses an unorthodox method of learning her location. They arrive at an old funhouse where Constantine is attacked by a zombie sent by Papa Midnite. Corrigan kills the zombie and saves him. Feeling the Midnite is getting impatient, John has Zed use her ability to sense where the girl was taken. She sees a man in her vision and manages to get an address. John, Zed and Jim head to the home where they the body of the security guard who was kidnapped. However, John is not too far out of Papa Midnite’s sight as he notices Papa’s crow. Papa Midnite also arrives at the house where he shoots Constantine who turns out to be a living corpse. The real Constantine surprises Midnite and knocks him out. After calling Zed, he returns to the carnival grounds. There, Constantine finds the serial killer. Jim arrests the child killer and Zed leaves with the girl. Seeing that allowing the child killer to live would be a mistake, Constantine convinces Jim to release long enough to kill him. Later, Papa Midnite is taken into police custody until he is rescued to Manny.

Well, that’s it. The (hopefully not) last episode of Constantine. Ever since her near death experience in last week’s episode, Zed is having a bit trouble with her psychic abilities after witnessing the death of a close friend in one of her visions. The experience is leaving her shaken and unable to help John Constantine with a missing child case since her visions always come true. Jim Corrigan, aka the Spectre, returns for the finale to help Constantine with the case. Like in the comics, he tries to give Zed sound advice in dealing with her friend’s emanate death. This might prove difficult since Zed can see the Spectre within Jim. The series has tapped in Constantine’s humanity on a couple notes and shown the heart behind to gruff and cynicism. Matt Ryan captures this essence and breathes it out beautifully. He is a joy to watch and was perfectly tagged to portray this character. Angelica Celaya may not be British but she no less entertaining as Zed Martin. Her banter with John shines light on the show’s gritty tones.
As you might’ve heard, there is a chance for a second season. NBC is considering bringing the series back but moving it to fellow Universal network the Syfy channel. But wait a minute, there is some red tape. Moving Constantine to Syfy would require a bit of renegotiation, but CineLinx top brass are considering moving the series for its second season. If this were to happen, Constantine could focus more on the supernatural horror aspect in favor of dropping the middle-of-the-road procedural angle. The move to Syfy would allow more freedom to truly delve deep into the dark brooding world of Constantine that fans of the comics are familiar with. With a second season, more characters can be introduced such as Swamp Thing and Zatanna Zatara. Despite long time series “Grimm” performing well on Friday nights, Constantine did not perform to the network’s expectations; however, even the higher-ups at NBC couldn’t help but be impressed with the fanbase and social media presence. There is risk with moving Constantine to Syfy but the network has realized that it needs a more appropriate sized hit, and Constantine reruns have performed exceptionally well.
It seems promising, but is NBC willing to put in the effort? Is Netflix waiting in the shadows ready to snatch it up like everything else? Or will we be left hanging in the breeze with a shocking finale like we were with Revolution?
- Angelica Celaya plays Zed Martin
- Manny watches over Constantine whether he like it or not.
- Voodoo king Papa Midnite (Michael James Shaw) has lots of beef with Constantine.
- A second season would provide a chance for other characters, like Zatanna Zatara, to be introduced.
- See the staff in the background? Know who it belongs to? That is the Ibistick of Ibis the Invincible.
- Dr. Fate’s mask is one of many Easter eggs hidden in the series.
- Jim Corrigan, aka the Spectre, was introduced earlier in the season. He is played by Emmett J. Scanlan.
- L to R: Harold Perrineau as Manny, Matt Ryan as John Constantine, Angelica Celaya as Zed Martin, Charles Halford as Francis “Chas” Chandler.
Here is the last scene from the finale!!
With that ending, NBC better not leave us hanging!!
