Since Capcom won’t show love to Mega Man, then it’s “father” Keiji Inafune (who left Capcom) will take matters in to his own hands…. or more so the hands of us, the fans. All with his new game, Mighty No. 9.
“Classic Japanese side-scrolling action, evolved and transformed by Keiji Inafune, an all-star team of veteran Mega Man devs…and YOU!” That is how the Kickstarter starts off and within 72 hours the goal for the Kickstarter that was set at $900,000 reached its goal and continues to rise with little under a month to go!
Inafune was the former head of Research & Development, as well as Online Business and Global Head of Production at Capcom, best known as the illustrator and co-designer of the Mega Man character. He was also the producer of the Onimusha and Dead Rising video game series. In most game credits, he uses the name “INAFKING”.
Mighty No. 9 is obviously a game heavily influenced by Mega Man, since he is partly responsible for the development of Mega Man. Inafune plans to be very hands-on with the title, acting as project lead. The Mighty No. 9 team consists of plenty of Mega Man veteran designers, including Naoya Tomita, a level designer on the original Mega Man and Mega Man 2 games, and Manami Matsumae, who produced the soundtrack for the original Mega Man.
