Cosplay Spotlight: PandaZMafia

Hi PandaZMafia, oh this? Oh it’s just your COSPLAY SPOTLIGHT!!!!!

Why do you cosplay?

I cosplay because it is a way for me to bring my favorite characters to life, to be able to test my skills as an artist and grow in my skills.  Ultimately, it is because cosplaying is just so darn fun!

What was your first cosplay?

My very first cosplay was from the anime Shuffle!  And I was cosplaying as Sia one of the main characters love interest. This was alllll the way back at Wizard World Philadelphia 2004.

Do you make your own cosplay costumes, if so, which ones, and how long does an average costume take to make?

I try my best to make most of my costumes. In the beginning my sewing skills/ prop making  was lower so I bought most of my costumes; however I have been making most of my costumes either by myself or with the help of fellow cosplayers or even some family members!  The one costume I am the most proud of that I have made is my Legend of Zelda Toon Link costume because it was my very first completion of a costume without any help, a very proud moment in my cosplaying time. Link took about a week, my Bison Cammy took about 5 months and Ms Marvel was around 6 months until completion.

What is your favorite character to play?

Without a doubt Link from Legend of Zelda since I am a huge fan of The Legend of Zelda series so it holds special meaning to me and I love meeting other Zelda cosplayers at every con or Nintendo event I attend to!

Amongst animation, comics, movies, or video games, what is your biggest inspiration for cosplay?

My biggest inspiration for my cosplay whether it is a character from a video game, comic, anime, etc is simple. I love the character. If I don’t like the character then I wouldn’t even consider cosplaying as him/her because I feel that I wouldn’t be able to portray that character correctly or have fun if I don’t enjoy the person.

Have you ever made any mistakes that you’d warn a first timer about?

Never EVER procrastinate before a convention!!! I have done this multiple times and have regretted it each and every time >_< Also make sure you properly measure yourself and get the right amount of fabric for your costume.

P.S. Cats like to destroy anything that dangles so beware of working on your costume around a cat.

Are there certain characters that are easier to play than others?

For me I would say those who do not wear heels! I seem to enjoy myself more when I’m not almost dying by the end of the day at a convention due to a superhero wearing stilettos.
