Cosplay Spotlight: America’s Greatest Otaku

Of course America’s Greatest Otaku will get a COSPLAY SPOTLIGHT!!

Why do you cosplay?

In one word: Fun. I’m having fun creating cool stuff and cosplay for me has been for me about the fun but feels as if I am making movies or movie posters with what is being put into cosplay, Getting an photographer and sharing my cosplay photos all over the social media. That’s not even half of it. I am currently thinking of doing a cosplay video of Captain N and talking with a few folks about how to make this happen. Nothing concrete since there are so many talented people out there.

When I cosplay I always remind myself that I am someone’s hero. Similar to a child meeting Santa Claus on the Holidays.I love becoming these awesome characters who are both super powered yet super human.

What was your first cosplay?

Mario from Super Mario Bros.

Do you make your own cosplay costumes, if so, which ones, and how long does an average costume take to make?

I actually piece my stuff together. A little bit of this and that.

What is your favorite character to play?

Mario since he brings smiles to peoples faces. Though I love Wolverine since I have the claws that ACTUALLY pop out but it’s Mario that brings cheer to people. I don’t want to limit myself to the classic Miyamoto character. I plan to cosplay as Kwame from Captain Planet and the Planeteers , Captain America Isia Bradley and Marvin from Super Friends.

Amongst animation, comics, movies, or video games, what is your biggest inspiration for cosplay?

A little bit of everything. Sometimes I would cosplay a character but steel a pose from another medium. Example using a power ranger/sentai pose with Ben 10 or a pose from the Superman Returns or Man of Steel with Cape Mario.

Have you ever made any mistakes that you’d warn a first timer about?

Not shaving. I cosplayed as Ben 10 with a mustache. Though in other incarnation of Ben from Ben 10 he does have a beard. Most are use to a younger Ben and not Ben 10,000 who has complete control over his powers. Which is why I did a re-shoot of Ben 10.

Are there certain characters that are easier to cosplay as than others?

Mario has ALWAYS been the easiest for me but soon it will be Marvin from the Super Friends.
