MacGyver gets retooled?!

Richard Dean Anderson in the role that made him a star.

If you grew up in the eighties then you know the name MacGyver. It was this cool show about a secret agent known for his skill to escape the tightest of situations with the most basic (and common) of items. In other words, let him lose in an ACE hardware store and watch him take down an army. Well now the hit show is set to become a movie. New Line Cinema is looking towards James Wan, director of the original “Saw” and “Insidious”, to be the go-to guy. New Line is impressed with his work and is excited about his latest project, “The Conjuring”. No contract has yet to be signed but Wan is chosen for the film adaption. There is currently no word as to whether Richard Dean Anderson will reprise his role.

MacGyver was so popular (and so outlandish) that the name is used as a term in modern slang to refer to someone who can “use ingenuity to remedy or fix any situation with the tools available on hand”. The show’s popularity still rings today. Saturday Night Live spoofed the show which later became a 2010 movie and the Discovery Channel’s Mythbusters took on MacGyver in a dedicated episode.
