Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Red Riding Hood (Meghan Ory)
Last night’s episode focused on Ruby aka Red Riding Hood. Now we’re all familiar with the story—little girl with a red hood and there a big bad wolf. Well, in “Once” they’re one in the same. It’s been 28 years since Ruby has changed due to the curse and she fears that she may not be able to control the wolf inside. That fact seems to have come to light as she escapes her improvised confines (in this case, an empty refrigerator) and a person is found dead. The story of Ruby’s past is told in the Enchanted Forest where she and Snow White remain on the run from the Evil Queen’s knights. Fearing that she may harm Snow on the night of full moon, Red insists they should separate. Afterward, she meets a man named Quinn, who reveals to her that he is also a wolf and takes to a secret location to meet the “pack”. There, Red meets the leader who claims to her mother. Apparently, Granny lied about her mother being dead.
Back in Storybrooke, Ruby is accused of murder after a person is found dead showing signs of an animal attack. Ruby takes the blame, knowing that she is the only one capable of such an act. Amidst this, tensions between David/Prince Charming and a man named Spencer run high as Spencer, revealed to be King George, rekindles an old grudge. In the Enchanted world, Red learns to control her wolf side. Snow White soon finds her where is immediately presumed to be an enemy until Red steps in to save her. All seemed fine until the Evil Queen’s knights burst into the werewolf sanctuary. Snow is blamed for the invasion along with the death of Quinn. Anita, Red’s mother and leader of the pack, sets to mete out Snow’s execution until Red willingly transforms into a wolf and save her friend. However, she inadvertently kills her mother in the process.
In Storybrooke, David and Widow find Ruby’s hood in the trunk of a car along with the murder weapon. Spencer succeeds in gathering the townsfolk to hunt down Ruby. The mob first visits the jail where Ruby was presumably kept until they hear her howl. They track her down to a gated lot, ready to kill her. Luckily, David arrives in time to expose Spencer/King George’s deceit and save Ruby. Spencer manages to slip from the crown while David dealt with Ruby. The Prince and the wolf track Spencer, only to witness him burn the Mad Hatter’s hat thus ruining David’s chances of bringing back his wife and daughter. While all this was going on, Regina has enlisted the aid of Mr. Gold to help Henry deal with his recurring nightmares. Gold makes a necklace for Henry and tells him, “If you take control, you’ll have nothing to fear.” Meanwhile in the Enchanted world, Aurora is having terrible nightmares. Her latest one she wakes up to find Emma and Snow White at her side. Aurora tells them about her dream and the young boy she saw. Emma is shocked to hear the familiar name. Hmm, maybe the hat wasn’t the only portal.
