This is for my fellow J1sters who were there in 1987 when Dolph Lungren took up the sword in that weird adaption of He-Man. Like with Super Mario Bros, we have been waiting for a better movie that would be more faithful to the source material. Thankfully, the 2023 Super Mario Bros movie did that. Then, another live action He-Man movie was announced in 2024 being done by Amazon MGM Studios. I was concerned for obvious reasons. The 1987 film was bad. Even as a kid watching this film, I did not enjoy it. It wasn’t the cartoon. So, I kept my faith low for this new He-Man film.
But now, I am beginning to raise my faith for this new He-Man film! Already, we have the things that fans have waited nearly forty years for! We got Prince Adam! We got Eternia! We got everybody in their proper outfits! We got a proper looking Skeletor! This is what we wanted, all the things that we know and love from He-Man coming to life. Best of all, he transforms! That was the key thing from the previous film! My only gripe is the ‘Superman angle’ of sending your child to Earth to save them from the dangers of your home world. Other than that, I am excited for this movie!
Masters of the Universe is directed by Travis Knight, from a script by Chris Butler, Aaron and Adam Nee, and Dave Callahan. It stars Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam / He-Man, who returns to his home planet Eternia to save it from the evil forces of Skeletor, played by Jared Leto. Camila Mendes, Alison Brie, James Purefoy, Morena Baccarin, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, Charlotte Riley, and Idris Elba also star.
Masters of the Universe bring their might to theaters June 5, 2026.
