My excitement for the God of War live action series keeps rising! The recent cast announcements are showing that great care is being taken into making this a worthy adaptation. A few days ago, Ryan Hurst was revealed to be portraying series protagonist Kratos. He is the voice of Thor in “God of War: Ragnarok.” While we’re on the subject of the Norse God of Thunder, Icelandic/American actor Olafur Darri Olafsson has been cast for the role. His notable works include “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty,” “The Deep,” and Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga.” He has also provided the Icelandic voices of characters in animated films such as “Ice Age,” “Lilo & Stitch,” “Brother Bear” and “Kung Fu Panda.” Max Parker (Peacock’s Vampire Academy) has been cast for the role of Heimdall, Teresa Palmer (The Grudge 2, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice) will play Sif, and Mandy Patinkin (Inigo Montoya in The Princess Bride) takes on the role of the All-Father, Odin. However, the best casting of all is Alastair Duncan reprising his role as the Smartest Man Alive, Mimir from the 2018 game and its 2022 sequel.
Furthermore, everyone’s favorite dwarf brothers have also been (properly) cast. Danny Woodburn (The Witcher, Bookie) and Jeff Gulka (The X-Files, Stargate SG-1) are portraying Brok and Sindri, respectively.

As a longtime fan who has been with the series since the beginning, I am happy with this casting for God of War, especially with pulling cast members from the games. Yeah, it’s not Chrisopher Judge, but I think Ryan Hurst will do a good job as Kratos, and bringing Alastair Duncan to be Mimir again is a no-brainer. No one else can do that but him. I am also glad that Amazon MGM did not go the “Snow White” route and cast dwarf actors to play dwarf blacksmiths. That is a win in my book! The only castings left are Freya and Baldur.
Gustaf Skarsgard as Baldur, perhaps. That would be insane.
