She continues onward regardless unaware that Aaron and Cynthia have been brought there as well. Cynthia is shocked to see Gene Porter there among the Patriots. In North Carolina, Neville leads Allenford’s husband to Justine when the husband pulls a gun on Neville. Tom tells him exactly what will happen if he takes Allenford. They will both be hunted down and their son would be punished. Allenford’s husband Roger contemplates his options. Meanwhile, Miles, Charlie and Rachel abduct Gene and take him to the building they were hiding. They question Gene about his involvement with the Patriots. He tells them about how the Patriots provided medicine as he provided a service for them. Truman finds them flanked with soldiers and orders them out. Gene says to leave him behind but Charlie objects. Truman issues on more warning before Gene exits the building, telling Truman that Horn promised to leave Rachel alone. Neville has been ambitious. He vied for Monroe spot when he was deposed as leader of the Monroe Republic but his chances were cut when Randall Flynn destroyed Philadelphia with nukes. Now he is slowly making his way up in the Patriot army. Last week, he took Justine Allenford prisoner when she decided to turn against the very people she works for. Neville wastes no time taking capitalizing on this and goes finds Justine’s husband Roger Allenford. Neville tells Roger his wife is a traitor and that she should be tried as one. I like how Tom devious Tom is. He finds a person weakness and exploits it to his advantage. And when he talks, his words are smooth like silk and deadlier than snake poison. All the while Neville remains coolheaded even with gun aimed at his face. When confronted by Roger Allenford who draws a gun on him, Neville works his magic is persuading Justine’s husband into considering his options carefully. If Roger kills him, Jason will kill his wife. If Roger kills both him and Jason, he and Justine will be hunted by the Patriots and branded as traitors, which will then put their son in danger. The words from Neville’s mouth caress Roger’s ears and poison his mind. Again, Neville’s dangerous charisma pays off as Roger is convinced to protect his own interests and kills his wife. When Roger Allenford leaves, Tom Neville looks at Justine’s lifeless body, likely plotting his next move, which will undoubtedly be towards Roger Allenford.

Regretful of his actions, Gene (Stephen Collins) opts to stay behind while his family escapes when Patriots find their hideout
Rachel and Charlie have slightly different reactions towards being betrayed by their father and grandfather Gene Porter. Rachel has lost all respect for her father. She does not want to be around him enough to where she no longer cares about his well-being. The latter is evident when she is ready to pour chemicals that will create a noxious gas that will kill everyone inside even after she sees her father enter the paper mill where Horn is. Guess there no more love for daddy, eh? Charlie, on the other hand, still has a heart for her grandfather despite the fact that she witnessed him agreeing with Captain Truman when he blames the bombing on Miles. She knows her grandfather had to have a decent reason for his actions. This dispute drudges up old feelings Charlie had towards her mother who was absent while she was growing up. She found it easy to hate Rachel for not being there for her and hard to forgive her for it. Charlie is willing to do the same for Gene. Rachel’s mind may have been changed a little when they capture Gene and he tells them about the medicine he received from the Patriots. He was forced into a position where he didn’t want to watch anyone else die just he did with Rachel’s mother. Gene redeems himself by holding back Truman and his men allowing his family to escape. The question is will Rachel go back for him after he destroyed her faith in him.

Calvin Horn (Zeljko Ivanek) wants the nanites that reside within Aaron Pittman
A new baddie is given light in this episode in the form of Calvin Horn who is clearly more dangerous and unstable than Randall Flynn and Sebastian Monroe put together. He wants Aaron Pittman to find out why the nanites resurrected him after he was clinically dead for two hours. He also got wind of Aaron’s pyro-kinetic powers which simply intrigued him. However, those powers scare the heck out of Cynthia. That fear turns to anger when she learns that Aaron killed her husband just the same as he did the soldiers. She tells the big man to hit the bricks until they are captured and brought to Horn. Horn reveals to Aaron that he is slowly dying of a brain tumor. He likely wants the nanites to repair the damage done by the tumor after witnessing how they repairs the cuts he made in Aaron’s arm and being able to roast marshmallows in your hand doesn’t hurt either. Horn will stop at nothing to get the nanites but will he get the chance when Aaron calls on the power of the flames again to save Cynthia?
