Barry and Caitlin narrowly escape the explosion caused by Ronnie/Prof. Stein nuclear reaction. Noticing that there is no radiation, they return to the crater to find that Ronnie and Stein have been successfully separated. After reuniting Prof. Stein with his wife, Barry meets up with West at the police station. West take him to his old home where he shows the images captured in the mirror. Barry is told that the second speedster is him. They speak to Wells about time travel. Wells says it is possible. Barry later speaks with Stein about it. Suddenly, Stein begins feeling Ronnie’s emotions. Ronnie and Caitlin are at a restaurant when it is attacked by Eiling and his men. Flash arrives and saves Ronnie just as he is cornered by Eiling. However, the general was prepared for Flash. Caitlin rescues Ronnie and Flash. At Star Labs, Wells determines that Stein and Ronnie’s brainwaves are connected. While Ronnie and Caitlin see Joe, Wells pays a visit to General Eiling. Eiling tells Harrison that he wants the F.I.R.E.S.T.O.R.M. project.
Flash has proven that with each episode—going big works! Firestorm’s reveal early in the season immediately generated buzz. The character was underrated due to the many Superman and Batman films. His last appearance on television was in the animated series “Super Friends: The Legendary Super Power Show”. There was an alternate version featured in “Batman: Brave and the Bold” but let’s stick with the Ronnie Raymond/Martin Stein version. Firestorm was originally supposed to be in the “Justice League Unlimited” series but he didn’t make the cut. Luckily, he appears in this series and he looks awesome. Forget the flashy (see what I did there) red and yellow suit, I like the simplicity of how this character looks. Robbie has the iconic symbol on his chest which is good enough for me. At first, Robbie and Stein didn’t get along so well which left them in an unstable mental state. Wells invention managed to separate them but they were still linked psychically. Luckily, they get their act together and now seemingly can separate and join together at will.
Barry got the revelation of his life. He speaks with Joe West who has been looking into the night Nora Allen was killed and learns, with help from Cisco, that the other speedster is in fact Barry as an adult. At some point Barry manages to travel back in time in order to save his mother. This is a big nod to “Flashpoint” which now looks like it will be the forerunning plot of the series.
Oh, the surprises don’t stop there. Harrison Wells fully reveals that he is in fact the Reverse Flash aka Professor Zoom aka Eobard Thawne. He does this to General Wade Eiling (who is the DC version of “Thunderbolt” Ross) who wanted to make an army of super soldiers using Firestorm’s powers (Marvel reference #2). Now Wells hasn’t dropped his name as being Thawn yet but he’s getting there. And there’s another Grodd sighting. After kidnapping the general, Wells brings him to the sewer and tosses him to Gorilla Grodd who now has psychic abilities much like he does in the comics. Featuring awesome characters, movie quality special effects and tapping into directly “Flashpoint”, the writers have been doing their homework and they are getting a passing grade. Can’t wait to see more of Grodd, Thawne and Firestorm. On a side note, I suggested that Robbie forget the red and yellow suit but lord knows he’s getting one. And he’ll be making stuff Edward Elric style.
