The sequel film to the TV anime adaption of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is showing no signs of slowing down. The film has surpassed over 20 billion yen (US $198 million) at the Japanese box office, making it the fifth highest grossing film over Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and third highest grossing anime film over Howl’s Moving Castle. Mugen Train sold 15 million tickets in 24 days, faster than Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirit Away which sold that same amount in 60 days. It also reach over 20 billion yen in 24 days compared to Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away making the same amount in 61 days.

Worldwide, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Mugen Train is the ninth highest grossing film of 2020, just slightly below DC’s Birds of Prey which grossed $201 million. If the train continues to roll on, it could more than likely steamroll right over DC’s female fronted featurette.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba opened October 16 and had the biggest opening weekend in Japanese cinema history. The first season of Demon Slayer is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.
