Compile Heart announced that Date A Live: Ren Dystopia, the upcoming video game based on the Japanese romantic comedy light novel series written by Kōshi Tachibana and illustrated by Tsunako, is being delayed. The game was originally planned for Summer 2019, now it will release in 2020 due to “various circumstances” as cited by the company.
Tachibana and Tsunako are writing the script and designing the characters respectively. The game storyline centers on Shido who hears a voice calling to him one night. He awakens in the morning to find a serpentine decorated box by his bed. He thinks it is a prank and as his friends about it, but something happens when he opens the box. The game will feature the Seventh Spirit Natsumi (voiced by Ayumi Mano) who appears in Date A Live III, the third season of the Date A Live TV anime. New spirits will appear the game as well.
The franchise has also inspired previous video games. Date A Live Rio Reincarnation HD, Compile Heart’s PS4 port of the 2015 Date A Live Twin Edition: Rio Reincarnation PlayStation Vita game, launched in October 2017. Idea Factory International will release the Date A Live Rio Reincarnation game for the PS4 and PC via Steam in North America on July 23 and in Europe on July 26.
