Cosplay Spotlight: Freddie Nova

Hi Freddie Nova! How are you? Welcome to our COSPLAY SPOTLIGHT!!!!!

Why do you cosplay?

I started reading comics 17 years ago & used to spend a lot of time at my local comic shop. I’ve always been crafty & enjoy working with powertools & whatnot so when I decided to give Cons a go, I just got hooked on all the different creative ways to recreate characters.

What was your first cosplay?

Lady Death 15 years ago for halloween

Do you make your own cosplay costumes, if so, which ones, and how long does an average costume take to make?

I do make my costumes, some completely from scratch & others from found or recycled items that I re-purpose  I have a couple friends who assist me on some & one who specializes in weapons. This will be the 1st year that I will wear some professional commission pieces as I would like to support the work of others more since I myself do not do commissions.

What is your favorite character to play?

After all these years, Lady Death still reigns supreme 🙂

Amongst animation, comics, movies, or video games, what is your biggest inspiration for cosplay?

I’m a comic girl 1st & foremost. I also collect vintage 80’s cartoon & movie memorabilia & enjoy some classic sci-fi.

Have you ever made any mistakes that you’d warn a first timer about?

Oh geez YES, but where to start on warnings! haha. Well for one, metallic spandex rubs off super easy, hot glue holds WAY longer than craft glue, when using bonding agents that require mixing in hardener: Less is better to buy time, always pack a repair kit for Cons & toupee tape can be your best friend ladies 😉

Are there certain characters that are easier to play than others?

Yeah, ones that don’t require body paint! And costumes with breathable fabrics are a beautiful thing in the summer. In general, costumes that are actual clothing pieces as opposed to armor or lycra are great for comfort (ex: Supergirl).

How to follow her:

I do allow Subscribers to follow my costume WIP & Hilarious nerd pics I always post on my personal FB page & always welcome costuming questions via personal messaging. I am also a manager & can be contacted on the Superhero Photography by Adam Jay FB page
