Cosplay Spotlight: Florencia “Jillian” Muir

Take a hard look at the wonderful Florencia “Jillian” Muir, this week’s COSPLAY SPOTLIGHT!!!!!

Why do you cosplay?

I ask it myself sometimes… and i don’t know, i really like it. I like everything that cosplay gives. It’s a new way to express your likes and live them! It’s an art where you have to think every detail, decide how will you do it, what do you need, check if you did all the details or if you have to search more informaticon about the character. It’s a hobby that take a lot of time but it worth it, you enjoy any moment in the process because is something that you like.

What was your first cosplay?

My first “cosplay” was Riku from Final Fantasy X-2. I think it was 6 years ago… But the first cosplay i was proud of it was Mockingbird for Expocomic 2010, she’s one of my favourites characters and was very special for me.

Do you make your own cosplay costumes, if so, which ones, and how long does an average costume take to make?

Yep! And it’s my favourite part in all this process. I really enjoy doing every detail, and I enjoy it more if someone helps me (Sometimes, my friend and cosplay partner Jonathan Duran). It’s a good kind to meet a lot of people too!
And, about time… It depends on the costume. I did some of them in a few nights (like Black Cat) and some (like Jill’s battlesuit or Emma’s armor) took me 2 months.

What is your favorite character to play?

I’m very very confortable with Harley Quinn cosplay. Some characters are so “heroic” and solemn and it’s a bit difficult express it. You must have a good pose all the day!
Harley is different, i can be really crazy all the time and some people have learnt very well how much i like playing with my hammer! I really enjoy exaggerating everything all i do!

Amongst animation, comics, movies, or video games, what is your biggest inspiration for cosplay?

Definitely, photography. I love make and edit photos, and i love pose and see them too! Cosplay give more oportunity to improve in so many aspects, since creative expressiveness until any technical support. It let you create all that you have in your mind! It’s a great way to do all that things you can only imagine.

Have you ever made any mistakes that you’d warn a first timer about?

Uff… A lot of them! Specially when we talk about gloves… I hate doing them… and maybe choosing characters. I’m very impulsive with it and sometimes… well, i don’t decide very well. But everybody makes mistakes and that’s how we learn.

Are there certain characters that are easier to play than others?

Of course. You know, if your personality is similar, you understand their story or see oneself in them it’s easier than someone who’s not like that. As usual, if you practice it, you can do it perfectly as well, but you enjoy it more when it’s more “natural”
