FINAL SPOILER WARNING!! END TRANSMISSION…..
Hunter and May hunt down Ward and 33. Hunter soon finds Bobbi strapped to a chair in a room unaware that a gun is rigged to the door. Bobbi puts herself in the bullet’s path just as the gun fires. Elsewhere, Ward shoots Melinda May only to have shot Kara who was disguised as her. Bobbi is taken back to the base where Simmons begins treating her. Aboard the carrier, Skye attempts to reach Coulson until she is found by Lincoln. She tells Lincoln the truth about her mother. Lincoln eventually believes her and tells her where the crystals are. A team of Quinjets led by Coulson are flying to the carrier when Fitz picks up a signal from Skye. Coulson orders all other jets to return to base. This does not go unnoticed by Jaiying who orders one of her men to check Skye’s cell. Couslon and team of SHEILD agents storm the carrier while Calvin confronts his wife. Elsewhere on the carrier Skye is locked in a fight with a woman who can make copies of herself and Mack deals with Gordon. May and Hunter help Skye while Coulson and Fitz assist Mack. Skye confronts her mother who has just loaded a case of crystals onto a Quinjet. Jaiying tries to drain Skye lifeforce but Skye breaks free and sends a shockwave that knock the jet overboard. Jaiying resumes her assault on Skye until Calvin intervenes and kills Jaiying. Gordon and the woman are also defeated. Afterward, Calvin is given a new identity through the TAHITI program and Andrew puts together a new program designed to suit powered people to which Coulson appoints Skye to lead. On the ocean floor, the case containing the alien crystals opens and defuses in the water, infecting fish just before they are hauled onto a trawler.
Skye’s development as a SHIELD agent and a person was the focus of this season. Annoying at first, she has come to be liked as a main character on the series and this season takes her further with her past revealed and the meeting with her mother. This was to put emotional stress on her shoulders and displays how she deals with it. The reveal of her Daisy Johnson identity and powers was the first hurdle. Like with puberty, Skye is scared and confused with the changes happening in her body and has no one to really talk to who will understand. Taken to Afterlife by Gordon, she finds comfort in her mother Jaiying whom she has never met. But as the events leading to the season finale unfold, Skye almost wishes it had stayed that way. Jaiying’s war against SHIELD thrusts Skye in the middle, forcing her to choose between her family and doing what’s right. The same situation is set up for her father Calvin who is dedicated to his family. Phil Coulson stops Calvin’s rampage on the base to make him see that his wife is dangerous toward his daughter whom Calvin has sworn to protect. Calvin has a big heart but his head just wasn’t in the right place. He is likeable on both sides of the same coin. He can be seen as crazed killer at one point, as in when he gathered other prisoners from the Sandbox to fight Coulson’s team, and a loving family man the next, when he had dinner with his wife and daughter. In the end, Calvin Zabo (given the last name Johnson to keep his relationship to Skye coherent) is really a very devoted father to his daughter who was misguided by his love for his wife. Because of this, Calvin was given a new life with a fresh start. Agents of SHIELD has given us fans a quality Marvel series. Yes, it was a slow climb from the beginning but well worth the wait for something truly marvelous. And with the movie tie-ins to Avengers, Captain America, and possibly Guardians of the Galaxy, and Grant Ward assuming leadership of Hydra following the defeats of Dr. List and Baron Strucker, the series will only continue to grow and develop, just like the characters in it.
