1) On what project are you currently working?
The script to the second issue of Alma (https://www.j1studios.com/alma-review/) is done, so Hernan the artist will start on it soon now that we made our funding goal. I’m working on Death Reign with JTravis Smith. I’ve got a few other projects in different stages. Robot Sex with Roman Gubskii may be the next comic I Kickstart so we can get the third issue done. I’m always working on mutiple projects.
2) Whom in your field do you admire most and why?
That’s a tough question. There are probably more than a few people I admire. One of my biggest influences is Steve Gerber, creator of Howard the Duck. I admire what Matthew Rosenberg is doing with his comics, I think What’s the Furthest Place From Here one of the best comics out there right now. Brian Michael Bendis, Tom King, Brain Vaughn are others I am fans of.
3) How did you get into the comic book field?
I’ve always read comics since I was a kid and always wanted to write, so I just wanted to write comics among other stories. I just starting writing them, trying to find as much information as I could about scripts and everything to do with writing comics, this was pre-Internet, so it was a little more difficult to find such information. I met some amazing artists like Sam Kieth and Dave Garcia and others and we started working together on short stories and sending them out to publishers.
4) On which title would you most like to work and why?
I’m not sure, I’ve focused so much of my attention on my own comics now, not that I would say no to any of the major publishers coming to me with work. Daredevil was always one of my favorite comics, but I’d be kind of intimated after all the great creators that have worked on it. I’d probably like to find some C-list character and give them a try.
5) On what project will you be working next?
I’ve written the next issue of Alma, but I’ll be writing the fourth issue to keep ahead of the game. I’ve got to finish up the script for Death Reign so we can get that out. Travis and I have another project we have in the works that will attract a lot of attention I think.
