Arthur finds the fabled Excalibur only to discover that the top half of the sword is missing. In Storybrooke, Regina and the others try to summon Emma who has been transported to the Enchanted Forest. They speak with the Apprentice who hands them Merlin’s wand. They are told the light and dark magic is needed to activate the wand. Since Regina can use light magic now, they seek out Zelena for aid but Regina is not ready to accept her sister’s help. Then, Hook devises a plan with Henry to release Zelena. However, while Henry distracts the desk clerk, Hook takes the key and goes to Zelena’s cell and attempts to take out her heart to ensure she will not betray them, but Zelena put a protection spell on her heart which knocks Hook back. She then uses his dagger to cut off her hand and remove the bracelet. With her magic restored, Zelena escapes. Words of this reaches Regina who knows exactly where her sister is headed. She leads everyone Baelfire’s apartment. Along the way, they encounter Zelena who has Robin captive. She uses him as a bargaining chip for the wand which Regina hands over. Zelena opens a portal but she is immediately weakened from the task. The bracelet is placed back on Zelena and Regina uses Emma’s baby blanket to summon a tornado and find her. In the Enchanted Forest, the image of Rumplestiltskin guides Emma down the path of the Dark One. Emma unwillingly teleport to a place that leads to Merlin. There, she finds a Wil-O-Wisp and Merida. The Wisp is the only thing that can lead Emma to Merlin but Merida needs it to save her kingdom. Rumplestiltskin goads Emma into killing Merida and taking the Wisp. Merida becomes wise to the deception and attempts to kill Emma. Emma manages to take out Merida’s heart. Just as she is about to crush it, her friends and family arrive in time to stop her. Emma and Merida make amends. Soon afterward, they meet King Arthur who takes them to Camelot. However, time passes and something is amiss.
The Dagger of the Dark One is a part of the mystical sword Excalibur
Once Upon a Time returns for a fifth season and things are already on a roll! The season premiere tackles “Brave” and one of the greatest tales ever told, King Arthur and Camelot. Sent to the past by dark magic, Emma encounters Merida who is given a new story of finding her triplet brothers to stop war coming to her land. According to this new story, Merida father, the king, is dead and her kingdom is in turmoil. She seeks out the Wil-O-Wisp in order to find her brothers. Scottish actress Amy Manson does an excellent job of bringing Merida’s spunky and headstrong nature to the live version of this character. Now that she as interacted with the main cast, expect her to show up again during the season. The episode starts out with King Arthur pulling the mystic blade Excalibur from the stone boulder. However, he discovers that the top half of the blade is missing. Actually, the Dagger of the Dark One is the tip of Excalibur. Well, now we got the tone for this season. Emma and company must seek out Merlin in order to reforge Excalibur and rid the realms of the Dark One for good. Easy, right? But this is Once Upon a Time and nothing is ever easy. At the end of the episode, the gang returns home and Emma Swan has become the new Dark One. Oh yeah, no one has any clue how it all happened…again. Seriously, this amnesia joke has about run its course. I love the series and like how the characters are reinvented but the “Men in Black” neuralyzer gag is getting a bit old. But I guess it works so…
The Black Swan has spread her wings and is ready to bring about a new age of darkness, especially since she now holds the dagger and her fate in her hands. What happened during the six weeks Regina and the others were in the Enchanted Forest? How did their mission fail? And can they stop the Dark Savior? The fan is on and the “it” is ready!
