Heavy clouds hang over the anime world as we mourn the passing of veteran voice actor Unsho Ishizuka. His agency Aoni Production made the announcement on their website, stating that Ishizuka had passed due to esophageal cancer on August 13. Funeral serve was already held with his family and public serve will be held on a later date due to the wishes of the family. Unsho Ishizuka began his career as a stage actor before transitioning to voice acting in 1984. He has had several roles over his thirty year career and is known for his deep, strong voice. He was also the Japanese dub voice of Captain Gantu in every version of Lilo & Stitch to date. He was also the current Japanese voice of both Heihachi Mishima in the Tekken video game series, Zabuza Momochi in the Naruto series, and Mr. Satan in the Dragon Ball franchise, taking over both roles since the death of longtime actor Daisuke Gōri. Recently, he had taken on the role of the senior Joseph Joestar in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders and in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable.
His most prominent role is that of Professor Oak/Dr. Okido in the Pokémon franchise, including the currently running “Sun and Moon” arc, as well as the narrator.
