So this post is basically a relay of the messages I got from various gear websites, but man I wish these deals had existed last year!
If you don’t have a MIDI keyboard in your studio, now is the time to change that. It’s so important to be able to take the melody that’s in your head and play with it until you have something solid. A Keyboard also makes recording that melody MUCH easier than using a pencil tool to place notes on a grid.
The two tools shown below are very portable, and I’ve always trusted Akai.

You can spend the same fifty dollars on a 49-key MIDI keyboard from M-Audio with a pitch bend and mod wheel. WOW.
This holiday deal from Sweetwater takes generous amounts of money off of studio monitors, guitars, cables, microphones, and production software.
Seriously, that blue microphone below this text is a deal to consider. Blue has always held a reputation for making incredible studio microphones and I can’t think of a reason why any producer would need a mic more powerful than Blue’s Bluebird condenser mic.
Finally, my last suggestion is to buy your studio speakers now. As a producer of three years, I can safely say that seeing a pair of semi-pro grade speakers from a brand such as Alesis priced at $149.00 is unheard of! They’re usually double that much at least! If you have the money and you know you’ll need speakers soon, don’t delay on this deal.
