Sad news, J1sters. We have lost another amazing talent. Word has spread of the sudden passing of actor Lance Reddick. He was 60.
Lance Reddick is best known for his roles in television and film. On television, he has played Cedric Daniels in the HBO series The Wire (2002–2008) and Detective Johnny Basil in Oz (1997-2003), Phillip Broyles in the FOX series Fringe (2008–2013), and Chief Irvin Irving in Bosch (2014–2020). He has also starred in the ABC drama Lost as Matthew Abaddon, and portrayed Albert Wesker in Netflix’s live action Resident Evil series. Reddick provided his likeness and voice to video game, voicing the characters Commander Zavala in Destiny, Martin Hatch in Quantum Break, and Sylens in “Horizon Zero Dawn” and reprised the role for “Horizon: Forbidden West.”
Lance Reddick has appeared in film as well. He was in 2021’s “Godzilla vs. Kong”, 2018’s thriller “Monster Party” and first appeared as Charon in the “John Wick” franchise in 2014, a role he reprised for two more films. He will appear posthumously as the Greek God Zeus in the upcoming Disney+ series “Percy Jackson and the Olympians.”

Reddick was born in Baltimore, Maryland. He attended Friends School of Baltimore. As a teenager, he studied music at the Peabody Preparatory Institute and a summer program teaching music theory and composition at the Walden School. Reddick studied classical music composition at University of Rochester’s Eastman School of Music, earning a Bachelor of Music degree. He then moved to Boston, Massachusetts in the 1980s. Reddick attended the Yale School of Drama in the early 1990s, receiving a Master of Fine Arts degree in 1994.

Lance Reddick was found dead in his home in Los Angeles on March 17, 2023. His cause of death is reported as natural.
