Shalom all you J1 enthusiasts out there, ’tis I your friendly neighborhood geekazoid here. Apologies for my prolonged absence but I’m back coming at you with a review on issue 1 of Israeli Defense Comics.
Okay so the story starts with our hero,Magen, bound to a chair in a warehouse full of weapons and explosives. His captors, a group of Palestinian terrorists, move in for the kill. Magen is able to fight them off and go off to find his damsel in distress, who by this time has gained the upper hand over her captor. Her captor wields a blade of great strength that is able to slice through Magen’s indestructible uniform. A rematch is vowed as the villain escapes the warehouse which is set to explode. Magen and his lady friend find a bunker but Magen fails to get into the bunker in time.
First I would like to thank the writer/artist Joshua Stulman who gave me a free signed copy of this comic book to review. i must say the comic is very well drawn i hope to see it in color some day. The concept was inspired it could be a great series especially since it isn’t weighed down with Jewish/Israeli puns like some ethnic/religious comics tend to be. Unfortunately the first issue was a bit lacking. While it works well to introduce the series and its hero it is incredibly cliche i mean honestly if i took the names out of my summary above it could serve to describe a plethora of popular movies cartoons and comics. I seriously hope issue 2 sdtrays from this path. Until then stay geeky my friends.
