Funimation announced on Monday they have added Fairy Tail: Dragon Cry to their anime lineup. They have also added the four Free! films (High Speed! Free – Starting Days, Free! The Movie – Timeless Medley – The Bond, Free! The Movie – Timeless Medley – The Promise, Free! – Take Your Marks) and the live action Tokyo Ghoul movie.
Fairy Tail: Dragon Cry will stream in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. Funimation screened the film in U.S. and Canadian theaters in Japanese with English subtitles in August 2017. Set between Fairy Tail’s penultimate and final story arcs, the film focuses on the members of the titular wizard guild infiltrating the Kingdom of Stella to recover a stolen staff of cataclysmic power.
The four Free! films will stream in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Ireland. High Speed! Free – Starting Days was directly inspired by the High Speed novel that is a loose adaption of the Free! franchise. Whereas the Free! anime centers on Haruka and the other swimmers during high school, High Speed! followed the characters during middle school. The film opened in Japan in December 2015. The first and second Free! films – Timeless Medley – the Bond and Timeless Medley – the Promise – premiered in Japanese theaters in April 2017 and June 2017, respectively.
Funimation will stream the live action Tokyo Ghoul film in the United States and Canada. The live action adaption of the popular horror manga series written and illustrated by Sui Ishida hit theaters in Japan on July 29, 2017. It was first screened at Anime Expo in Los Angeles on July 3, 2017. Funimation screened the film in U.S. theaters in October 2017.
