FOX has recently greenlit the long awaited sequel to the disaster film “Independence Day”. Production is set to begin in May and the company will move to close Roland Emmerich’s directing deal. FOX has locked in a date of June 24, 2016 for the film’s release but this could likely change. Sadly, Will Smith will not return for the sequel. But if for any reason he does, Emmerich and Dean Devlin will him in, in a heartbeat. Casting will begin once Emmerich has been locked. The script was written by Nicholas Wright and James A. Woods. Carter Blanchard rewrote the first script that was done by Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin. The green light means that FOX can release the film on July 4, 2016 to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the original film which has grossed $811 million world wide.

Also joining the list of long awaited sequels is the fourth Jurassic Park film. A sneak peek trailer was released by Universal Pictures. Steven Spielburg will, who directed the first two films, will serve as producer as he did for the third film. The plot of the film centers on Isla Nubar featuring a fully functional park called Jurassic World which John Hammond envisioned in the first film. The park is owned by the Masrani Corporation. Jurassic World’s on-site staff has been conducting behavioral experiments on Velociraptors. Hey, they learned how to open doors. Maybe they’ll learn how to tweet. Anyway, things go awry when the research team accidently releases a genetically-modified dinosaur hybrid into the park. Figures.
