How’s it going, J1sters!
As the old saying goes, “Third time’s the charm!” Marvel is making another attempt to bring the “first superhero family” to the big screen with a worthy portrayal. And they may have found the right formula. Fantastic Four: First Steps throws the quartet into the retro-futuristic 1960s. The film stars Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as the titular team. It is directed by Matt Shakman from a screenplay by the writing team of Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer, Josh Friedman, Cameron Squires, Eric Pearson, and Peter Cameron.
Premise: On a 1960s-inspired retro-futuristic Earth, the Fantastic Four must protect their world from the planet-devouring cosmic being Galactus and his herald, the Silver Surfer.
Fantastic Four: First Steps hits theaters July 25, 2025.
Afterthought: So, right away, Marvel is doing things right. We got the Fantastic Four in their iconic uniforms and after 20 years, we finally get a comic book accurate Ben Grimm/The Thing. Plus, Galactus will likely appear as he should in the comics instead of a cloud of cosmic dust. Now, there was an announcement about the Silver Surfer appearing in the film. Galactus’ herald will appear, but it will be the Shalla-Bal version portrayed by Julia Garner. Shalla-Bal is the lover of the original Silver Surfer, Norrin Radd. She becomes the Silver Surfer in an alternate universe. So, it’s not a gender swap of the character, but an alternate version of them. Anyway, I look forward to this film being good or at least better than the previous films.
