Cosplay Spotlight: Tabitha Lyons

Are you ready to be amazed? Presenting Tabitha Lyons for this week’s COSPLAY SPOTLIGHT!!!!!

Why do you cosplay?

I get to become characters from movies, comics, cartoon and so much more that I love, it’s nice to be someone else for the day and seeing friends and making new ones at cons, I also love the whole process of getting excited whilst making your cosplay from start to finish.

What was your first cosplay?

It’s hard to say what my first cosplay was as I used to dress up as characters before I even knew what I was doing.. My first cosplay I made for a convention was She- Hulk.

Do you make your own cosplay costumes, if so, which ones, and how long does an average costume take to make?

Yes, As I work for Artyfakes Action Props I try to make every costume stand out, Armoured costume takes longer than costumes with material like leather as the process is quicker. We usually make our own costumes in runs along with costumers as it’s quicker – So it’s hard to say how long they take as there not made day to day.. I can say I haven’t spent more then two weeks on a cosplay.

What is your favorite character to play?

WOW that’s hard, I only cosplay characters I love!. To date, If I had to pick I would say Juliet Starling not just because I can run around flat footed with a chainsaw, but she’s such a happy character, and because generally I usually can’t stop smiling she is perfect for me. She’s a character I can really relate to. I also used to be a cheerleader and secretly kill zombies (table top ones not flesh eating smelly ones) when I was her age. so I think I embrace her well and hopefully her fans can see this.

Amongst animation, comics, movies, or video games, what is your biggest inspiration for cosplay?

I’m a gamer through and through so that will always be a great inspiration for me though I’m also quite a movie buff they are really the biggest influence over my cosplays – but I will always research and look at all of the art work before choosing a character. for instance when I cosplayed Adam Hughs Lara Croft.

Have you ever made any mistakes that you’d warn a first timer about?

I never expected the amount of reaction I got from my first major con, It was crazy I was dressed in my dragon born Armour and it took me half an hour at least to walk ten steps, So never underestimate! Make sure you have bottles of water as you can get quite dehydrated and if you have a big costume make sure you have a handler, to help you get through doors with wings ect..

Are there certain characters that are easier to play than others?

Some are more easier than others, it depends on the cosplay and the practicality of them carry a large sentinel can get quite hard, it’s not heavy as it made from foam but as it’s so large It’s hard to see where I’m walking 🙂
