Cosplay Spotlight: SOF Soldier

Welcome SOF Soldier, check out your week in the COSPLAY SPOTLIGHT!!

Why do you cosplay?

I cosplay because I love stepping into the shoes of someone else for awhile. Depending on the character, I like seeing the looks on children’s faces and the faces of wowed onlookers as they marvel at what I have made. Sometimes I just like being the bad guy for awhile….

What was your first cosplay?

My first cosplay was a simple Doctor Doom from a Halloween party in 2008, it was simple and it got me interested in costuming as a whole!

Do you make your own cosplay costumes, if so, which ones, and how long does an average costume take to make?

Yes, I make my own costumes and depending on my timeframe and work intake, it could take a week, a month or longer…

Who is your favorite character to play?

Captain America, hands down. I love everything he stands for, I love carrying the shield, I love being a symbol of hope, I love standing for something.

Amongst animation, comics, movies, or video games, what is your biggest inspiration for cosplay?

I would say it’s a mixture of comics, movies and cartoons. All it takes is seeing one cool costume on screen and you go “Oh yeah, I gotta make that”….

Have you ever made any mistakes that you’d warn a first timer about?

Haven’t we all. Wait for paint to dry, don’t be overzealous. Be patient. Also, be neat and tidy with hot glue, it makes a mess and can ruin a costume if your not careful with it. Also, don’t be too proud to ask for help, we all need help sometimes.

Are there certain characters that are easier to cosplay as than others?

Yes and no. Captain America is easier for me to do just because we both have similar beliefs and outlooks on things. I’m not getting into character, i’m just being me. Deadpool is another one, just act like an idiot and your in character. If i’m feeling anti-social, Batman is easy, I just look gruff and say nothing.
