Cosplay Spotlight: Lacy Von Voorhees

Hello Lacy Von Voorhees, welcome to your, COSPLAY SPOTLIGHT!!!!!

Why do you cosplay?

Since I’ve started modeling I’ve always had so many ideas and creative concepts and most of the time I do all my own wardrobe styling for my shoots as well as hair and makeup. I’ve always been a fan of anime and some of the concepts I wanted to shoot were references to movie characters and anime characters, I then discovered the world of cosplay; cosplay photography and anime/comic conventions from photos online and I was hooked.

What was your first cosplay?

My first cosplay Glinda the good witch from Wizard of Oz that I only used for a photoshoot. The first cosplay to wear to a convention was Baby Doll from Sucker Punch.

Do you make your own cosplay costumes, if so, which ones, and how long does an average costume take to make?

Most of them yes. A few my mother has helped with the sewing. And I handcraft all the accessories and details. Usually around a 1 to 2 months but that is because sometimes I only have a few hours to work on it.

What is your favorite character to play?

Currently it’s my Baby Doll from Sucker Punch cosplay because out of all my costumes it seems to be the most popular when I wear it to conventions.

Amongst animation, comics, movies, or video games, what is your biggest inspiration for cosplay?

Seeing other cosplayers and the effort and creativity they put into their costumes.

Have you ever made any mistakes that you’d warn a first timer about?

Yes, we all make mistakes and that’s how we learn. One mistake is wearing uncomfortable shoes to a convention. Some characters it may be hard to avoid. My best advice for that would be to test out shoes before a convention or put in comfy insoles in the shoes since you are going to be walking around most of the day at a convention. Another mistake I made was staying at a hotel 15-20 min away from a convention. You may think you will save by opting for a cheaper hotel, but the money you saved on the hotel ends up all going to  rude taxi drivers or parking lot near the convention.

Are there certain characters that are easier to play than others?

Of course. Some characters are very elaborate and have pieces like huge wings or costumes that might not give you the most mobility while other costumes are closer to everyday outfits or something like a catsuit/bodysuit for a super hero thats form fitting and stretching and easy to move in.
