Cosplay Spotlight: Cosplay (ash)

Cosplay (ash), this is your week in our COSPLAY SPOTLIGHT!!

Why do you cosplay?

I love to cosplay I do it to show my love for my favorite character in a anime comic or video game. When I cosplay I feel like I’m famous so many people take my picture at conventions and I feel like I know everyone there. It’s just an amazing breathtaking experience that I can not live without.

What was your first cosplay?

My very first cosplay was Mizore from Rosario Vampire.

Do you make your own cosplay costumes, if so, which ones, and how long does an average costume take to make?

I make half of my cosplay, and half of it I buy. I’ve only been cosplaying for about two years. I’m still not great at sewing, and it’s not my favorite thing to do. I prefer making props. The first weapon I made was the Kingdom Keyblade. The keyblade took me about four weeks to make and usually when I make an outfit, it could take around three weeks, to three months depending on the difficulty.

Who is your favorite character to play?

My favorite cosplay so far is Rouge from X-men, because it was the most popular and I looked awesome, and felt awesome in it.

Amongst animation, comics, movies, or video games, what is your biggest inspiration for cosplay?

My biggest inspiration for cosplaying besides the anime, comics, and video games, would be the journey to the convention. If I did not go to a convention I feel like there’s not really any reason to cosplay, because all I would do is sit around the house in cosplay. I don’t feel like I would be accepted if I walk around in cosplay everyday in public. Unfortunately everyone in the world does not understand. Only at a convention I feel that acceptance and understanding.

Have you ever made any mistakes that you’d warn a first timer about?

I have made a lot of cosplay mistakes. A lot of my cosplay consists of dying fabric because it’s hard to find the right colors, so I would warn a first time cosplayer to buy it white, and dye it right. I messed up so many outfits cause I tried to dye clothes that where not white different colors. Don’t waste time trying to dye felt it wont work. Mostly cotton, and different materials will come out different colors.

Are there certain characters that are easier to cosplay as than others?

There are lots of cosplays that are easier than others, like armor is very hard. If you’re cosplaying as a character with a school uniform, that can be pretty easy, because you just have to find the right outfit mix and match with very few adjustments.
