Cosplay Spotlight: Clare Turner

Clare Turner is making a grand entrance at our COSPLAY SPOTLIGHT!!!!!

Why do you cosplay?

I cosplay because I can be a totally different person and wear amazing costumes, wigs, etc. I have always loved acting since I was 5 years old so cosplay is my outlet. I also love creating costumes and props.

What was your first cosplay?

Light Yagami from Death Note

Do you make your own cosplay costumes, if so, which ones, and how long does an average costume take to make?

I try to make my own cosplays. If they are too complicated I always order from ebay or somewhere. The cosplays I made so far are Sasuke Uchiha, which only took me a few months because I had to get stuff together.

I made Light Yagami which didn’t take me long because its just a suit and tie. I put a very casual Loki together pretty quickly as well with things lying around the house along with using my own hair. I also put together Ichiru Kiryu from Vampire knight which didn’t take long either. I also made my own William T Spears Cosplay by using a suit I found at a Thrift Store, wooden down with foam board for the scythe, and my own glasses for his glasses.

I also made a casual Allen Walker from D Gray man using the same vest for William, and a red ribbon. I try to make cosplays by using clothes and then altering them to fit. Currently I am working on Belle’s gown from Once Upon A Time, Daisuke Hiwatari from DN Angel, Joey Wheeler from Yugioh, Kyo Sohma from Fruits Basket, and casual Regina Mills (storybrook) from Once Upon A Time

What is your favorite character to play?

Hmmm, this is a very hard question. I’ve got so many that it’s difficult to find just one. I guess in general the favorite cosplays are the ones that are evil or bad boy. Examples would be Light Yagami, Loki from Avengers, Claude Faustus from Kuroshitsuji, Kyo Sohma, etc.

Amongst animation, comics, movies, or video games, what is your biggest inspiration for cosplay?

My biggest inspiration would actually be other famous cosplayers on Youtube such as Parle` Productions in England.

Have you ever made any mistakes that you’d warn a first timer about?

Never try to make a chakram out of foam. They break extremely easily.

Are there certain characters that are easier to play than others?

Yes. I am a very giggly person so many of the cosplays I chose are hard to do because they are very serious people. The characters that are easier for me to cosplay are characters like Allen Walker, and other giggly characters.
