A Mother’s Fury!! The Following S2 Ep.7 Recap!!

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!!

Joe, Emma and Mandy arrive at a camp where they meet an old friend of Joe’s named Robert. Robert arrives with armed men who blindfold Joe and thee girls. At the FBI, Ryan is brought in by Mendez who believes him about Joe Carroll being alive. Afterward, Ryan meets up with Mike who tells him that he is leaving the FBI. Back at his apartment, Max has lost her job as an investigator. She tries to convince him to give up on Carroll but he can’t let it go. On her way back to the station, Max is taken hostage by a man and his young son who were pretending to argue. Ryan receives a call from Lily who sent him a video of Max’s abduction. At the cult camp, Joe meets Micah who asks Joe’s true purpose for coming to him. Meanwhile, Ryan and Mike, on Mendez’s request, help identify the man who took Max and Max wakes up in the home of her abductor. Ryan speaks to Luke about the man who took Max. Luke tells him that the man is known to be a serial killer called the Huntsman. They arrive at Kurt’s home. His wife tells them that he is out of town. Ryan and Mike question Kurt’s son Chris who tells him that he has a cabin upstate. Max tries to convince Kurt to hunt her as he did with the other girls but Kurt refuses. Max manages to take down Kurt and escape. After passing a lie detector test, Carroll is initiated into Micah’s cult.

Organized religion is just dang creepy, especially when led by an eccentric leader. Joe Carroll meets a man named Micah while he was supposed to be seeking refuge with help from a friend named Robert. Micah’s cult is presented as a dark religious order. Micah is seemingly unbalanced himself yet it is this imbalance that makes him all the more dangerous. Joe walks the other side as he is now the follower instead of the leader. This is a position that Joe will hold only until he finds it no longer necessary. Micah has already shown he has a fondness for Joe and his work and will respect him as long as Joe returns the favor. I don’t see this mutual respect lasting long since Emma was made a sacrifice in the religious group’s ceremony. This fact is furthered when Joe confronts Micah’s wife who chose Emma for the sacrifice only to see the small hint of fear in her eyes. Does this cult fear or revere Joe?

Try as he might, Ryan couldn’t hide the fact that he is obsessed with killing Joe Carroll for long. Max figures this out and her uncle breaks no bones about admitting it. This feeling is heightened knowing how close Ryan came to bagging Carroll. He can’t let him go, not even for his niece who begs him to. As long as Joe Carroll is out there, Ryan will keep hunting him until he kills him.

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. Yes, that line holds meaning, and it holds meaning with Lily Gray. She has gone way off the deep end of a shallow chasm after witness the apparent death of her son Luke. She has a known serial killer kidnap Max to get back at Hardy, most likely for taking Joe (or driving, literally) away from her and Weston for killing Luke. Hardy sees Luke who is recovering from his butt-kicking and learns from him that Lily has been speaking with a number of known murderers for reasons yet to be known. From Luke, Ryan learns that the man who took Max is extremely dangerous as he likes to hunt his victims for sport. Luckily, Ryan manages to get to his niece in time. But Lily’s crescendo is sending a video of Mark killing Mike Weston’s father. Weston watches in horror as Mark slowly slices his dad’s throat. The scene completely crushes Mike’s soul. This act may be the straw that breaks the camel’s back. He nearly killed Luke before so I’m certain he’ll stop at nothing to kill Lily who promises more surprises for him and Ryan.
