“Ah, you’ll always be by my side.”

Jafar meets a woman in the market place in Agrabah whom he witnessed using black magic. He asks the woman to teach him, telling her that he was abandoned by his father the Sultan. In Wonderland, he and the Red Queen plot against the Knave of Hearts for ruining their plans for Alice thus far. Alice and The Knave are pursued by soldiers in the woods. They split up to avoid capture. While hiding, Will is saved from capture by the Red Queen. In Agrabah, the sorceress poisons a man in order to teach Jafar a spell but he is against the idea. But soon he relents. Will is captured by the Red Queen and imprisoned. While searching for Will, Alice meets someone else who is looking to collect the bounty on his head. Jafar is not happy with the fact that Will still alive and orders for the Red Queen to execute him. The Red Queen is hesitant on the idea. Jafar is shown a spell that involves the power of genies, three in particular. Elizabeth guides Alice to the Red Queen’s castle. She tells Alice her story of how she and Will used to steal together. In her prison, the Red Queen tells Will that the White Rabbit will arrive to return him back to Storybrooke. Will refuses and challenges her to execute him. Word of the execution spreads fast and gets to Alice.

A crowd gathers in the courtyard for the execution. One of the queen’s men informs her and Jafar that Alice is in the courtyard. Will is brought before the public and placed in the block. However, the executioner turns out to be Alice. She frees the Knave and they use the catapult to escape over the wall. Elizabeth, Alice and Will attempt to escape but they are cut off by Jafar and the Red Queen. Jafar attempts to kill the Knave until Alice wishes to die along with him and then turns his attention to Alice. He tries to force her to use a second wish but she refuses. With no other choice he allows Alice to live but he turns Will to stone before he leaves. Alice pleads with the Red Queen, who she just found out is Anastasia when Will called to her, to help Will. She refuses and decides to allow Alice to leave. In Agrabah, Jafar betrays Amara intent on getting the last genie and performing the spell on his own. He uses a spell to steal her magic. The episode ends with Cyrus using the wishbone he sharpened to cut the cage in order to escape.

We find out why Jafar wants Cyrus’ power so badly and how he acquired his power, and that at at one point, he wasn’t such a jerk. The sorcerer’s life begins in Agrabah where he meets a sorceress named Amara when he was a child. Jafar is the son of the Sultan of Agrabah who ousted him, calling him a bastard. Angered by this, he asks Amara to teach him magic but she refuses until the day comes when Jafar is older. His first task was to take the life of a man who was his friend. Yup, Jaffy had a buddy. Amara shows him a spell that involves the power of three genies. This starts his journey down the path of darkness. During that journey, Amara falls in love with Jafar who seems to love her in turn. That is until he became a jerk. Jafar has been stringing Amara along while they searched for the genies and he learned the ways of black magic, all for the purpose of, my guess, becoming more powerful than his father the Sultan. He turns her teachings against her and turns her into a snake. Y’know that staff he carries around? That’s Amara. In this form, Jafar has access to her magical powers anytime he wants. But he is saving her for the special occasion when he finally gets Alice to use up her wishes and gets Cyrus’ bottle. Amara tells him that the spell requires two spell casters. Well no problem. Jafar has his trusty staff with him. He got Alice to make one wish to save the Knave of Hearts. Now he just needs her to make her other wishes.

The Red Queen and the Knave of Hearts go back. They were once lovers. That love ended when Anastasia became the Red Queen. Or so it seemed. Because of his constant interference, Jafar orders the Knave dead. This sparks her dormant feelings for Will but she dare not show them to Jafar. The Red Queen captures the Knave herself but doesn’t bring herself to kill him. Instead, she plans to have the White Rabbit dig a hole to return him to Storybrooke. Will challenges her to kill him. Most likely this is a test to see just how much she still cares for him. He still cares for the Red Queen/Anastasia as he is bent on finding a way to restore her to the woman he loves. Jafar learns of the Red Queen’s deceit and demands Will Scarlet be made an example of those who help Alice. Again, the Queen expresses concern for the man she loved. When she and Jafar corner Alice and Will, the Red Queen’s emotions are put to the test when Jafar begins choking the life out of Will, who calls to her for help. She watched helplessly, greatly concerned for him but still she has to keep her feelings stifled in front of Jafar. This act forces Alice to use a wish to save Will. She wishes that she dies along with the Knave if Jafar kills him. Jafar needs Alice alive to make two more wishes. So he turns Will into stone instead. Once the sorcerer leaves, Alice looks to the Red Queen asking why she didn’t do anything. Returning to the crude shrew she is, the Red Queen dismisses the question. Alice asks her but the Queen has no intentions on imprisoning her. With her love captured and her friend encased in stone, her majesty decrees that Alice is already in prison, reminding her that she rules all in Wonderland. No doubt that Anastasia is jealous over Alice’s noble act. But how does she feel about her partner turning her man to stone?
