Tonight’s episode opens with children playing at a playground when a woman takes one of the children to the bathroom. A sudden storm strikes the playground and the both the woman, who turned out to be a demon, and the child are gone. Dean is driving along when he suddenly sees a familiar face. He stops to investigate but finds no one. Elsewhere, Crowley brutally interrogates an angel for information on other prophets. He has the tablet and is unable to locate Kevin Tran.
Dean and Sam pay a visit to the woman who was working at the preschool. They question her about the incident. Sam mentions the smell of sulfur which strikes something with the teacher. Back at the motel, Dean begins seeing Castiel. Meanwhile, Kevin’s mom enlists the help of a witch to make a weapon to kill demons. Crowley has kidnapped several people in the hopes that one of them can deduce the tablet’s Word of God. Sam and Dean investigate the disappearances of several from different parts of the word. While there, Castiel shows up much to the Winchester’s, especially Dean, surprise. Dean questions their angel friend about his escape from Purgatory. Castiel tells Dean he doesn’t remember the details. While Castiel cleans himself up, Dean has his doubts about Castiel’s story, telling Sam he remembers his escape.
The supposed witch meets with the Trans where she betrays them, allowing Crowley to kidnap Kevin and kill his mother. But she manages to hold off her execution. Sam and Dean continue to investigate the mysterious disappearances. As Sam reads off the names, Castiel reveals that the names belong to other Prophets of the Lord. It doesn’t take them long to figure out that they are the reason Crowley is snatching them up. However, there can only be one Prophet at a time. The Winchesters then receive a call from Kevin’s mother. They rendezvous with Mrs. Tran where she reveals the demon that tried to kill her detained in the trunk of her car. Crowley has Kevin detained where he persuades the Prophet to read the tablet.
The Winchesters, along with Castiel and Mrs. Trans arrive at the building where Crowley has Kevin and the other Prophets revealed to them by the demon that has lived out his usefulness. Through their combined efforts, Sam, Dean and Castiel make their way to Kevin. Dean tries to pick the lock to the room where Kevin is being held but Castiel goes on ahead even though his full powers are not back. Crowley and Castiel prepare to throw down with Castiel calling upon his angelic powers. He smashes the tablet into two halves. Crowley manages to snatch on of the halves before escaping from being destroyed.
Afterward, Sam tells the Kevin and his mother that they will be staying with another hunter. Dean still feels regret for leaving Castiel in Purgatory. Castiel shows Dean the truth of that day; that he had in fact wanted to stay there for his crimes in Heaven and on Earth. Sam walks up to them and begins to go over what their next move will be. During the explanation, Castiel is called to Heaven to an unfamiliar room. There, he is told to keep watch over the Winchesters and to give a report when asked. His bond with the Winchesters has Castiel refuse to keep taps on his friends. He is told he will have no choice. He is then returned to Earth with Sam and Dean unaware of his brief departure.
I am glad Castiel has returned. There was no way he would be written out and I can’t wait to see how his return will continue to play out.
