Konami announces first new Castlevania game in over a decade!!

Dude, has it really been that long! Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse is an upcoming Metroidvania game scheduled to be released in 2026. The game is to be developed by Evil Empire and Motion Twin, developed in partnership with and published by Konami. It is the 26th installment in the Castlevania series, and the first new entry since Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 (2014). The game’s protagonist is a descendant of Trevor Belmont. The game is set in France in the year 1499, 23 years after the events of Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse for the Nintendo Entertainment System.

Belmont’s Curse borrows elements from Super Castlevania IV via whip swinging while the exploration is clearly from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. From what I can see in the trailer, we may have our first female protagonist for the series (Maria Renard in SOTN doesn’t count since she is a unlockable character) which is cool as long as the game is fun.

The game’s announcement and release coincide with the 40th anniversary of the original Castlevania, released in 1986. The game is being developed by Evil Empire and Motion Twin, developed in partnership with and published by Konami. It is planned for release on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, and Windows in sometime in 2026.
