Fellow gamers, if you were waiting for the Black Panther video game then wait no longer, because it is being made no longer. EA has announced that the open world adventure title featuring Wakanda’s legendary protector has been ‘Thanos snapped’ along with newly founded studio, Cliffhanger, which was established in 2023 for the purpose of developing the Black Panther video game. Cliffhanger was comprised of staff who had worked on incredible titles such as Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor and its sequel Middle-Earth: Shadow of War, Halo, God of War and Call of Duty.
EA head honcho Laura Miele said in a memo obtained by IGN that they are cancelling the game and closing the studio to focus on “putting their creative energy behind more significant growth opportunities.” EA and Marvel had a three-game deal with Black Panther being among the titles with Iron Man being the only game cleared for launch so far. Black Panther’s removal has place future Marvel titles in jeopardy.
In 2024, EA has laid off more than 700 people, stating their uncertainty about investing in licensed IP moving forward. The company will continue to focus on a handful of franchises including Sims, Battlefield, Skate, Apex Legends, a third Star Wars: Jedi title and its mobile business despite the cuts.

This is what the Black Panther game would have featured had it continued to move forward
The Black Panther game was going to follow T’Challa’s son as he takes up the mantle to stop a Skrull invasion of Wakanda. It was intended to be open world RPG where players could explore Wakanda and interact with its people. The game would’ve allowed players to create and guide their own custom Black Panther and it would have featured familiar characters T’Challa, Killmonger, Shuri, M’Baku and Azuri, the son of Storm and T’Challa. On top of that, the game would feature combat based African Martial Arts mixed with superhuman strength and the use of gadgets. Wow, EA really blew it. We could’ve had an essential “black version” of Batman Arkham.
