Kevin Smith has the power! The star of the “Jay and Silent Bob” franchise and Comic Book Men announced that he will be directing a the new He-Man series coming to soon to Neflix. He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Revelation will pick up where original series left off, depicting the final battle between He-Man and his arch nemesis Skeletor. Smith promises that “this is the Masters of the Universe story you wanted to see as a kid.”

And it very well could be. Mattel Television is gathering some of the best talented writers for the project including Eric Carraso (Supergirl), Tim Sheridan (Reign of the Supermen), Diya Mishra (Magic the Gathering), Marc Bernadin (Alphas) and Mattel TV vice president and author of “He-Man: The Eternity War” Rob David. “Masters of the Universe has been a cultural phenomenon for generations, inspiring fans to find their own power,” David said. “Fans of this franchise have been waiting for the continuation of these characters, and Kevin Smith, as a ‘Masters’ superfan, is the perfect champion and partner to expand the canon through a dynamic animated series on Netflix.”

Masters of the Universe: Revelation will take place in the 80s Mattel storyline and will focus on some unresolved stories of the original series. Kevin Smith will serve as showrunner and executive producer.

Mattel TV had produced a previous He-Man series in 2002 that aired on Cartoon Network from 2002 to 2004 to coincide with the relaunching of the toyline. Despite being well received by fans, the series was canceled due to the toyline’s unsuccessful relaunch.

Dreamworks recently released an updated version of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power in November 2018.
