Thanks to Diamond Comics Distributors’ day-early delivery program, July 4 falling on a Wednesday this year will not screw up your comic buying pleasure! Most comic shops should be getting their books on Tuesday, although they still can’t sell them until Wednesday. If your comic shop is not open on July 4, call them slackers, beat up the clerk and take your business elsewhere. Here is a quick peek at some of this week’s releases:
Action Comics #11: Grant Morrison’s take on Superman’s early days in Metropolis continues apace, alternating between insane and crazy in the way that only Morrison can do. If you don’t like this book, or any given Grant Morrison comic, you’re just not on the right drugs.
Animal Man #11: Red vs. rot keeps on going, as the hero tries to get back into his body and get his family safely to Swamp Thing for the Christmas color team-up.

Avenger vs X-Men #7
Avengers vs. X-Men #7: With Cyclops declaring “No more Avengers” and Scarlet Witch joining the fray, the insanity increases. It could be argued that issue 6 was the best so far, and here’s hoping that #7 continues to show improvement.

Batman Earth One
Batman Earth One: The second Earth One DC graphic novel featuring a new take on the origins of your favorite heroes hit the stands on Independence Day. It will be EPIC.
Before Watchmen: Ozymandias #1: Jae Lee does full interior art for the first time in what seems like sixhundred years. J.G. Jones (Wanted, Before Watchmen: Comedian) said that this was some of the most beautiful comic book art he has seen in years, so high praise from an incredible talent.
Dial H #3: China Mieville’s Vertigo-esque revamp of the camp classic is one of those books that came out of nowhere to be a massive must-read.
Fables V. 17: Inherit the Wind: The latest collection of Bill Willingham’s epic hits the shelf. If you’re reading Fables in trade, you know the pain of waiting six months for the next volume. Thankfully, your wait is almost over.

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe
He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: James Robinson brings us back to Eternia. That’s the good news. The bad news is, the villains have won. Not to overuse a word, but it is probably going to be epic! Uncanny X-Men #15: More AvX goodness in the Mighty Marvel Manner. Of course, keep in mind that since Marvel puts out all their big sellers twice a month, that means in six months you get 12 AvX, 12 Uncanny, 12 Wolverine and the X-Men, 12 Avengers, 12 New Avengers, and on and on. They’re always a pleasure to read, but it’s a little difficult to get really excited about them when they are ALWAYS COMING OUT.

Wolverine #310
Wolverine #310: How the $*%& is Sabertooth alive when we saw him slinking around the dark corners of Hell? Well, for that matter, how was Puck at Northstar and Kyle’s wedding in Astonishing X-Men #51? The answers lie within!
These and many more goodies await you at your local comic shop on Wednesday, July 4. Unless your comic shop is closed on the Fourth of July, in which case they completely suck. Just saying.
