Overwatch and Diablo fans will have something to cheer about. According to a report from Kotaku, Blizzard Entertainment is shifting gears to begin laying down the tracks for an Overwatch sequel and Diablo 4. To pull off the effort, Blizzard has canceled work on an unannounced StarCraft project. Both games will be announced later at this year’s BlizzCon. Diablo 4 was rumored in the past, however, there was nothing about a new Overwatch. Sadly, Kotaku has no further details about the projects. What they do have is interesting, however.
The second Overwatch game will have a large PVE element, which employees at Blizzard said is similar to Left 4 Dead. Obviously, the sequel title will retain the team-based PVP gameplay of the current Overwatch, but it looks like Blizzard could be expanding the IP. Interviewed by Game Informer earlier, Blizzard President J. Allen Brack had said, “We also think there are a lot of different types of games that can exist within the IP’s that we have. If we think about Overwatch IP for example, We think about the Overwatch IP as being extremely large and extremely all-encompassing. Overwatch is just being a very small part of what that IP could be.”
Of course, due to lack of anything tangible, the news regarding Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4 should be taken lightly. Blizzard has made nothing official on their website, Twitter or Instagram accounts. If any announcements are to come, BlizzCon 2019 is the best to go. As far as the info from Kotaku is concerned, it should be regarded as ‘hear-say.’
