Cosplay Spotlight: Vegas PG

Hey look it’s Vegas PG in this week’s COSPLAY SPOTLIGHT!!!!!

Why do you cosplay?

I Cosplay because it’s fun! I can’t think of too many other hobbies where you can be surrounded by people who love what you do and enjoy it themselves!  It’s such a positive environment for everyone!

What was your first cosplay?

Power Girl was my first cosplay back in 2008, and she’s evolved a lot over the years!

Do you make your own cosplay costumes, if so, which ones, and how long does an average costume take to make?

Yes, I do make my own costumes, though I have to admit that sometimes you can find “the perfect” piece to add to what you have (and cheaper than you can make it) at a thrift store.

It’s hard to say exactly how long each one takes to make because I work on this one some, then work on that one some…I’m always tweaking and adjusting my costumes so they always look their best! My favorite thing to make, though is a corset! I can crank through one of those in about 6 hours start to finish!

What is your favorite character to play?

My favorite character is Power Girl! I love her personality, and she has such a wide variety of fans; from the tiny little kids who are so excited to see a “real” superhero to the veteran comic lovers who appreciate a good likeness.

Amongst animation, comics, movies, or video games, what is your biggest inspiration for cosplay?

I try to pull from all of these genres, but I usually end up making the cosplay that I think I’ll be most successful constructing!  If I had to narrow it down, I’d probably say….no I don’t think I can narrow it down!  I have this epic list of cosplays I want to do that come from anime, comics, and video games!

Have you ever made any mistakes that you’d warn a first timer about?

Choose a character that you really like for your first cosplay, or one you feel connected to.  I think it’s less about how you look (although that is important too) than how you FEEL as that character!  Remember, cosplay is about having fun, and if you’re not having fun, you’re not doing it right!

Are there certain characters that are easier to play than others?

I think any cosplay that you feel a connection to is easier to play.  And inevitably, if you spend the time researching the character (and find that you like them) and making the costume, all that makes it easier too.
