Sarah Cugini has arrived for this week’s COSPLAY SPOTLIGHT!!
Why do you cosplay?
I am a very shy person in everyday life, but when I cosplay, I am more outgoing and it’s easier for me to connect to people. I also love constructing cosplays; I get super excited when I can put a costume together.
What was your first cosplay?
My very first cosplay was Sailor Moon way back when in elementary school.
Do you make your own cosplay costumes, if so, which ones, and how long does an average costume take to make?
Who is your favorite character to play?
Amongst animation, comics, movies, or video games, what is your biggest inspiration for cosplay?
MI would say animation is my biggest inspiration for cosplay. Of course, that could change in the future. So many things to cosplay, so little time.
Have you ever made any mistakes that you’d warn a first timer about?
Take care of your wigs. I did a cosplay when I was first starting out that I had to wear a long with with. I didn’t store the wig properly and it got SUPER tangled. So tangled that I tried to cut it to make it look better…and it just made everything worse. I wish I had known how to maintain my wig in the beginning.
Are there certain characters that are easier to cosplay as than others?
Some can be. It always depends on the character you cosplay. Some have a lot of accessories that can be complicated to make, so it takes more time and more effort. But if you’re having fun with the process and the result, then all the hard work is worth it!
