Cosplay Spotlight: Alpha Furyan

From the darkness comes… Alpha Furyan in this week’s COSPLAY SPOTLIGHT!!!!!

Why do you cosplay?

I’m a comic geek at heart and Halloween is my favorite holiday. My godfather Henri David throws the biggest Halloween ball in the country and I’ve been going since I was 12, and now I’m 33. The characters I portray are an extention of myself and I love the feeling of getting into that in particular character’s skin… It also allows it to be Halloween everyday when your a cosplayer.

What was your first cosplay?

Do you make your own cosplay costumes, if so, which ones, and how long does an average costume take to make?

I dont make my own costumes. Instead like to consider myself a method cosplayer. I only pick characters where I can train to match that character’s exact look and physical presence.

What is your favorite character to play?

I usually root for the villains. But I like to cosplay the anti-hero types. So my favorite character to portray is RIDDICK I’d like to say I have the patent on it. The only person that might argue that is Vin. LOL

Amongst animation, comics, movies, or video games, what is your biggest inspiration for cosplay?

My mother owns several video stores, so as a child I was surrounded by an unlimited amount of pop culture that influenced me. I also believe as kids, our parents and teachers tell us we can be anything we want when we grow up a except superheroes. But cosplaying allows anyone that has ever dreamed to actually be one and not only influence, but help bring others joy of seeing those characters brought to life.

Have you ever made any mistakes that you’d warn a first timer about?

I would just say make sure you’ve done a test run in your costume. Because 7-8 hrs at a Con in a uncomfortable costume can be brutal.

Are there certain characters that are easier to play than others?

I mainly cosplay Dark Knight Rises Bane, RIDDICK, Lex Luthor and Sagat. But I would say Lex and Sagat are pretty simple you just have to keep up their attitude and arrogance.
