Cosplay Spotlight: Adya Moran

Adya Moran is in the building! She’s our guest in this week’s COSPLAY SPOTLIGHT!!!!!

Why do you cosplay?

I cosplay  because I love to step out the everyday, mundane work routine and become some of the characters I’ve read about in comics or seen in the movies and t.v.  I also, love to cosplay because it gives me an opportunity to dress up and perform community serves.  For example, my husband (Eric Moran)  and I have been able to go to community related events in full cosplay gear.  The children and the adults love it when they can interact with some of the characters we cosplay.

What was your first cosplay?

My first cosplay was Green Lantern Arisia.  I had a lot of fun with that Cosplay.  I was so excited and nervous at the same time because I didn’t know how everyone would react to my costume.  But after the first hour or two I became totally comfortable.

Do you make your own cosplay costumes, if so, which ones, and how long does an average costume take to make?

I am in the process of learning how to make and/ design my own costumes.  Right now, I get help when designing my costumes.  One of my goals is to improve on making my props.

What is your favorite character to play?

One of my favorite cosplays is Wondergirl because she represents empowerment.  She is mentally and physically strong ,  very spirited, and brave.  And although there have been many different versions of her over the years, I still enjoy cosplaying her character.

Amongst animation, comics, movies, or video games, what is your biggest inspiration for cosplay?

My Cosplay is inspired by animation, comics, and movies.  When I watch something or read a comic, I am always thinking of ways to improve on my Cosplay.    Sometimes I’ll  talk to other Cosplayers to get some feedback.

Have you ever made any mistakes that you’d warn a first timer about?

The first time I cosplayed was a great experience.  The only down side to my first experience were the floors. The  convention center floors are very unforgiving on the feet!  Now I wear low heels or flats as often as possible.  A comfortable pair of boots/ footwear goes a long, long way!

Are there certain characters that are easier to play than others?

Each character I cosplay takes a some effort but one of easier characters is The Bride from Kill Bill.
