5 Questions with… Artist/Inker Le Beau Underwood

1) On what project are you currently working? I am currently not working on anything at the moment. I just wrapped up issue #5 of Wolverine: Patch for Marvel and DC VS Vampires: KILLERS #1 for DC Comics.

2) Whom in your field do you admire most and why? There are so many professionals that I admire for various reasons: Don Perlin, George Perez (R.I.P.), Olivier Coipel, Mark Morales, Danny Miki, Jonathan Glapion, Ray Height, Wade Von Grawbadger, etc. All of them are very professional and dedicated to their craft.

3) How did you get into the comic book field? I want to say that, waaay back in 1997(?), Don Perlin took me under his wing as a protege. I learned the fine art of brush and nib inking from him mainly. Later, I joined Crimelab Studios under the guidance of Danny Miki, Jonathan Glapion and Jaime Mendoza, who helped me to refine my craft. I began sending in samples via mail to various publishers, and took the advice given to me by editors until I began to get work. The rest is history as they say.

4) On which title would you most like to work and why? I’ve always wanted to work on Black Panther, Dr. Strange and Captain America for Marvel, and Green Lantern, The Flash and Batman for DC Comics. Why? because all of those are iconic characters and I have wanted to place my mark upon those characters.

5) On what project will you be working next? I guess we will have to wait and see…! I have been working nonstop since May of 2021, so I am very appreciative of the break, as brief as I hope it will be! LOL
