Yugi is slightly surprised. This man knows about the pharaoh spirit residing in the Millennium Puzzle. Then again, this doesn’t surprise him. There have been others that know about Yami; Marik in particular. He was well versed in the pharaoh and his power and, more importantly, how to unlock that power and restore Yami’s memories. This man may want to speak to Yami but Yugi needs to find out where Anzu is.
“Where is Anzu Mazaki?” Yugi asks him.
The man stays firmly silent.
Just then, Yami speaks to Yugi. “It seems this man will only speak with me.”
“But we gotta find out what happened to our friends,” Yugi said with concern.
“I know. I suspect this man either knows what happened to Anzu or he is behind her disappearance. If we are to find our friends, we must meet his wishes.”
“You’re right. We have to do whatever it takes to find them,” Yugi agreed.
With that, Yugi switches with Yami. “Alright, you have my attention,” he says in a commanding tone.
The man is able to recognize that the Pharaoh has come forward. “It is an honor to make your acquaintance, Pharaoh,” he says with a bow of his head.
Listening in, Gingka and his friends are taken aback by the man’s response. Why he referred to Yugi as pharaoh, they wondered. Is Yugi some sort of king or a person of importance elsewhere? At first glance, he doesn’t look like someone who could be a ruler of some kind. But they have come to know better than to judge a book by its cover. They have encountered people who have turned out to be not as they appear. If Yugi is someone important than perhaps this guy did something to his friends.
“You know who I am but you have yet to tell me who you are,” said Yami.
“I am Azeem. Lord Osiris has commanded me to test you,” he says.
“You serve Osiris?! Where is he?”
“I am not permitted to reveal that information to you. However, the information I do have is in regards to your friends.”
Yami was right. Azeem is behind his friends’ disappearance. “Where are they, Azeem?” he demanded.
Azeem, with a calm demeanor, says, “I cannot reveal that information to you. Unless you defeat me in a beyblade battle. Only then will I reveal all that I know.”
“He does know about Yugi’s friends,” Gingka said with shock.
“Just tell him where his friends are!” Benkei bellowed.
They are quick to jump on Yugi’s side, knowing what it’s like to fight for people they care about. But Azeem is not moved by this act. He stays firm in his proposal. “I will do no such thing until the Pharaoh has defeated me in a beyblade battle. Not before.”
“Then we’re helping out!” Gingka boldly stated. Benkei and Kenta quickly agree with him. “Yugi, we’ll help you take this creep out and get your friends back.”
Yami looks at them and smile with appreciation. However, before he can speak, Azeem quickly reminds them of the condition of this upcoming battle. “Pharaoh, understand one thing. If your new friends interfere in our battle, I will leave, taking the answers you seek with me,” he says firmly.
Yami shoots a look at Azeem. Looking into his eyes, he can see that the man is not bluffing. As much as he appreciates Gingka, Benkei and Kenta’s willingness to help, he and Yugi cannot risk an opportunity to find Jonouchi, Honda and Anzu. “Gingka, Benkei, Kenta. I appreciate your help but I cannot risk this opportunity.”
“But Yugi…” Kenta started to protest.
“Azeem will be true to his word and leave should I accept your help. And then I will lose the only opportunity to find my friends,” Yugi tells them.
Kenta is pure innocence. He is quick to make friends and ready to help anyone in need. He feels strongly for Yugi. If anything happened to Gingka, Benkei or any of his friends, he would do anything for them. But like most kids, he jumps in too quick, not thinking at times. Gingka knows this about Kenta. He also knows how to calm him down when he gets excited. “Don’t worry Kenta. I know you wanna help. We all do. But we can’t do anything that will keep Yugi from finding his friends,” he said to Kenta calmly.
Kenta is disappointed but knows that Gingka is right. If they jump into the battle, Azeem will leave and Yugi will lose the best chance he has of finding his friends. He looks up at Yugi and with determination says, “Yugi, beat this creep so we can find Anzu and the others.”
“I will,” Yami says back.
“We got your back, Yugi!” Gingka says with his usual zeal.
“Yeah, win this for your friends,” said Benkei.
Yami replies with a nod and turns to face Azeem. “Alright Azeem, you have yourself a battle,” he says. He then takes his bey from the holder and presents it to Azeem. “And by the power of my Dark Magician, I will defeat you!”
“Hm, so the Dark Magician is still your servant even now, Pharaoh. Interesting,” said Azeem. Osiris’s servant then presents his bey. “Let us see how your sorcerer fares against my mystic creature the Wind Scorpion.” Both Yami and Azeem take out their launchers and lock their beys in place. “As I have said, I will reveal all that I know should you defeat me in this battle. However, that will not come to pass if victory is mine. Do you understand, Pharaoh?”
“I understand, Azeem. Now understand this, I will not lose this battle. I will defeat you and I will find my friends,” Yami said sternly.
“Then let us begin,” said Azeem. He counts down and then both he and Yami yank the cords of their launchers, sending their beys into the stadium. They take a moment to size each other up before making a move. Azeem appears to know about the Dark Magician which worries Yami. Since he is a part of this world, Azeem might also know countermeasures to use against his beloved monster. An opening attack may be his best option. Stop Azeem before he can attack first. Yugi commands Dark Magician to strike. The purple bey charges at Azeem’s earth tone bey with the scorpion crest on it. With a simple glance from Azeem, Wind Scorpion dodges Dark Magician and takes position in the center of the stadium. Yami quickly sends his magician at Wind Scorpion again. A wall of wind suddenly surrounds the scorpion bey and repels the Dark Magician, sending it bouncing to the edge of the stadium. Yami Yugi’s bey holds its ground and resumes circling the stadium.
“What was that?!” Yugi said from within the Millennium Puzzle.
Gingka and the others are taken aback by the action. Wind Scorpion’s defensive attack reminded them of another Beyblade that can do the same thing. Kyoya Tatagami, Gingka’s friend and rival, has a bey that can also perform a defensive move using wind—his Rock Lione. Curious, Madoka takes out her laptop and uses it to scan Azeem’s bey. She checks the bey’s physiology. Once the analysis is complete, it is confirmed that Wind Scorpion not only has the ability to create a wall of wind like Rock Lione but it is also the same make and model. Upon further analysis, Madoka discovers that Wind Scorpion’s fusion wheel is shaped like a scorpion poised to strike with its claws in front of it for defense and the tail coiled around the rear of its body for further protection. Madoka relays this to Gingka, Benkei and Kenta. “This isn’t good guys. Not only can Wind Scorpion create a wall of wind for defense but the fusion is shaped like a scorpion protecting itself, giving Akeem’s bey a strong defense. So attacks from the side aren’t going to work well against it,” she tells them.
“That means Yugi has to attack from above,” Benkei noted.
“Galaxy Pegasus can attack from above. Maybe that’s why this guy wanted us to stay out of the battle,” said Yu.
“Either way, we gotta tell Yugi. Let him know what’s up,” Gingka said. With that, he calls out to Yugi to tell him what they just learned. However, Azeem is quick to stop him.
“Speak no further!” he commanded. “As I have said, interfere with this battle in any way and I will leave, taking the information about the Pharaoh’s friends with me. There will be no third warning.”
Gingka and his friends are held fast. They usually help each other out with important information during a battle but not this time. Azeem has made his rule even clearer. Should they try to help Yami Yugi, he will leave with the very lead Yugi needs to find his friends.
“What do we do now?” asks Kenta.
“The only thing we can do now is support Yugi and hope he takes this guy down,” said Gingka.
