Excited?! I know you are. The film adaption of the Suicide Squad is tapping into some big names. Will Smith, Tom Hardy, Jared Leto, and Jesse Eisenberg are currently close to being signed to the project with Jared Leto being courted into playing the Joker. Margot Robbie has been confirmed to play Harley Quinn in the film. DC fans know her as the Joker’s girlfriend/hencewoman/punchline to his constant abuse humor towards her. Harley was first introduced in Batman: The Animated Series and has gone on to be one of the most popular female character in comics. This is the first time she will be portrayed on the big screen. For thos who don’t know, Harley Quinn’s real name is Harleen Quinzel. She was a psychiatrist assigned to assess the Joker and his violent sense of humor. The Joker manipulates Harleen through their many sessions into becoming infatuated with him which eventually leads to her becoming the woman we fans know and love today. Hopefully this is mentioned in Suicide Squad. As of late, DC hasn’t been able to keep up with Marvel comics at the box office. Marvel’s films “Avengers”, “Iron Man 3”, “Thor: The Dark World” and “Gaurdians of the Galaxy” have all gone on to set records. Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight” film series and “Man of Steel” have done well for the company but were met with mixed reviews. However, DC does hold firm on the small screen with their television series “Arrow”, “Flash”, “Gotham”, and “Constantine”. The Suicide Squad has to be done right in order for DC to reestablish itself as a comic company that can give its characters justice. I don’t know much about Margot Robbie enough to determine how well she’ll portray Harley. Plus it depends on which direction the film will take the character. I just hope they don’t screw her up, that’s all. What are your thoughts on this? The Suicide Squad is scheduled for a 2016 release.
