In a recent tweet, Netflix confirmed that British actor Henry Cavill will portray Geralt of Rivia, the protagonist of The Witcher series of short stories and novels by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. They have laid down the ground for an upcoming series adaption of The Witcher which will run for eight episodes in its inaugural season with each episode having a one hour runtime.
Interestingly, Netflix is not turning to the games published by CD Projekt Red rather they are looking to the original short stories and novels by Sapkowski. The series will be spearheaded by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, who has written scripts for television series The West Wing and Justice, as well as written and produced shows such as Parenthood, Do No Harm, Private Practice, Daredevil and The Defenders. The Witcher series has no release date at the moment but the fact that they have their ‘super’ star means things are cooking nicely thus far.
