After 13 years, the video game website Game Trailers will cease operation effective immediately. When the gaming market shifted from magazines to flashy trailers at the start of the new millennium, Game Trailers was the go-to spot for anything and all things games. Whenever a news dropped in the world of gaming, they were the top spot to hit. But over the years, competition started to stiffen with Youtube rising up to the occasion of providing gamers with trailers of upcoming games as well as videos of everything and other companies like Twitch providing video game lovers with a new way of watching online. Even the game companies themselves are posting trailers. It is unfortunate that Game Trailers couldn’t hang on with this rise. Also, the laying off of employees after the company was brought by Defy Media in 2014 likely didn’t help either. While Game Trailers’ demise was expected, given its place in the gaming community the people who watched the site closely during E3 will undoubtedly be sad at its departure.
I know I am.
