The official Twitter account for the live action Kakegurui series announced that Elaiza Ikeda will portray Hyakkaou Private Academy’s student council president Kirari Momobari in the second season and accompanying film. Elaiza says that she has been reading the manga since volume one and wondered who will be cast for the role. The last thing she expected was that she herself would get the part. During the first season of the live drama series, Kirari was shown only through silhouette shots while keeping the actors’ face hidden. This was likely done to make the character all the more mysterious.
The season second will premiere on MBS and TBS’ Dramaism time slot next spring with a live action movie to follow. Cast members from the first season will reprise their for the second including Minami Hamabe as Yumeko Jabami. Earlier this year, Japanese idol singer Sayuri Matsumura was cast to play Japanese idol singer and student council member Yumemi Yumemite.
The live action Kakegurui series is based on the manga of the same name written by Homura Kawamoto and illustrated by Tōru Naomura. The series centers on Hyakkaou Private Academy, a prestigious school where gambling is part of the curriculum. Things get shaken up with the arrival of transfer student Yumeko Jabami, who wins her first gambling match right off the bat. It is soon revealed she is the one who gambles for the thrill of it rather than the financial or social gain. With an exceptional ability to see through gambling scams, she quickly disrupts the hierarchy of the school, and the student council frantically tries to find ways to shut her down.
The TV anime of Kakegurui – Compulsive Gambler is also getting a second season, titled Kakegurui XX with the entire cast and staff returning, which is set to premiere January 2019.
The first seasons of both the TV anime and live action Kakegurui adaptions are currently streaming on Netflix.
