After nearly two decades of absence, the fantasy adventure manga Slayers is returning with its 16th volume. On Friday, August 31, Fantasia Bunko announced that the light novel series written by Hajime Kanzaka and illustrated by Rui Araizumi would be continuing the adventures of teenage sorceress Lina Inverse and her companions when the novel ships in Japan on October 20. Fujimi Shobo’s Dragon Age magazine published pre-production art of the new volume in January, and began serialization in March.
Slayers was first serialized as short stories in Dragon Magazine in 1989 written by Hajime Kanzaka and illustrated by Rui Araizumi. The serialized chapters were then published as Slayers light novels across 15 volumes from January 25, 1990 to May 15, 2000. Tokyopop began publishing the series in English in 2004 and ended with the eight volume in 2008. Slayers has spawned five television anime series, two original video anime, five anime films, and multiple manga adaptations. It is considered one of the best series of the 1990s.
