Paramount has revealed that they have found their director for the planned live action/CG hybrid Rugrats movie. They are tapping David Bowers to helm the project. Bowers is no stranger to directing animated films, having worked on “Flushed Away” and “Astro Boy” before making the move to live action by directing three films in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series (Rodrick Rulez, Dog Days and The Long Haul). The Rugrats film is being produced by Karen Rosenfelt. David Goodman wrote the script for this new incarnation in which the babies will be CG creations.
Rugrats was a Nickelodeon cartoon that aired for 174 episodes across nine seasons from August 11, 1991 to August 1, 2004. The Rugrats films is a part of Paramount’s project to breathe new life into old Nickelodeon shows. Dora the Explorer is getting a live movie adaptation that hits theaters July 31, 2019. Another popular series “Are You Afraid of the Dark?”, along with Rugrats, is planned for a future movie. Paramount set the date January 29, 2021 for Rugrats.
